Macpherson Reveals How she Lost 50 KG
Nick Papaziakas: Hi Lara, tell us a
little bit about yourself when we first met Lara
Macpherson: I
probably wasn’t in a very good place, I was very unhappy with
myself. I didn’t particularly like who I was, I didn’t like my own
reflection in the mirror and it seemed to stem into all aspects of
my life. It was time to make a change. NP: Why did you decide to make a lifestyle change? LM: I think it was all just building up
over time, I guess being in my mid-20’s and going out with my
friends and stuff and being the only one that had a weight problem
in that group, and I guess also being sick and tired of not being
able to walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath and
noticing the way people would give you a sideways glance and things
like that. One day I just woke up and said Enough Is Enough! NP: What type of results have you achieved so far? LM: In the last 3 years I’ve lost 50
Kilos and it’s not only just the weight loss it’s also my whole
life, my whole life has changed as a result of that NP: What was your weekly routine before you made the change
and what’s you weekly routine now? LM: Oh my weekly routine before I made
the change Nick, it’s not very good (Laughs). It was just copious
amount of things, I was just abusing my body, I’d been abusing my
body for such a long time it was all about you know, I guess too
much coke, McDonalds, my god I’d finish my work at Safeway and I’d
be down at McDonalds for a happy meal at 11 O’clock at night. I
guess it was just those sorts of things, I never really understood
what it was actually doing to my body. Now my god, I don’t drink
soft drink anymore and it’s something that if I have a sip now I
can’t actually handle the taste, I’ve gone from doing absolutely
zero exercise, I was the type of person that would drive around the
shopping centre to get the closest car park to the door, whereas
now I exercise 6 days a week! NP: How is your life different now? LM: My whole lifestyle and my outlook on
life has changed, I think I’m a far more confident person since
I’ve lost the weight, I feel far more happier in myself, I’m not
tired anymore, I’m not grumpy anymore, I used to be quite a sad
person and always upset and not understanding why I’m feeling a bit
sorry for myself but since I lost the weight I guess for me it’s
been about taking the power back so from then on my life keeps
moving in different places which I never thought would ever happen
for me. NP: What is the secret to your consistency over 3 years? LM: I guess just knowing each week I have
to come and see you! (Laughs) I seem to now notice that if I go a
few days without the exercise I feel like something’s wrong,
something’s out of the ordinary and I actually miss it. So it’s
just about making my whole lifestyle change, I don’t even think
about whether I want to have a glass of coke or a glass of water
it’s an automatic thing i’ll just go straight for the water as
opposed to the coke. NP: Do you have any tips for someone just starting out? LM: My biggest tip would be not to worry about
what anybody else is thinking. When I first started exercising that
was my biggest fear that people would look at me and judge me, so
don’t worry about what anybody else thinks because it’s your
journey and you’ve got to do what’s right for you. NP: Why is Healthy Vibes a good choice for personal
training? LM: From my perspective I was always very
scared of exercise, I was very scared of gyms, personal trainers
and Healthy Vibes was the first place that I could come to, I
actually felt comfortable, you guys inspired me and made me feel
proud of the results that I was actually achieving. Even if it was
just that first time I ran on that treadmill for 10 minutes and I
thought my heart was going to palpitate out of my chest, you still
made me feel like that was a massive accomplishment, and whereas
these days, you know, I’m running up to 5km’s (It is now 8km). I
guess Healthy Vibes from my perspective changed my whole
life.
